Reviews of Spitting Image

Thanks to everyone who has read Spitting Image, and a super big hug to all have written a review of the experience on Amazon! There are so many foundlings and adoptees searching for their truth, my friends. Their search in the present is no less fraught with anxiety and obstacles than mine was several years ago. The technology and precision continues to advance rapidly, but most importantly, the number of expert volunteers continues to grow. The DNA Detectives Facebook group is now up to 159,200 members! Foundling Finders has surpassed 600, and a newer group DD Social boasts 40,200 members. The interest in genealogy is broad. The desire to connect is more focused and highly intense.

By writing a review of my Spitting Image on Amazon or your point of purchase, you make it easier for seekers to find the encouragement and inspiration for their journey. My story is a marker - a candle in a window - that lets them know they are not alone, it can be done, and that their truth is within reach. The satisfaction of truth and closure can fill an entire book, and when you write a review, recommend Spitting Image, or share it with your electronic, social and personal networks, you are laying bread crumbs in a very lonely forest that someone may follow to peace, forgiveness, and acceptance. If you have not already done so, please take just a few moments to write a review on Amazon. Share your perspective and a link to my book on your social media accounts. Call your local independent bookseller, and ask them to stock a few copies (it's easy for them to find through their normal distribution channels). Call your local library and ask them to stock a few copies. If you've always known your biological truth, it may be difficult to appreciate the importance of such an opportunity for those who are searching. Trust me, please...your recommendations, reviews, and markers - flags, candles, whatever we call them - are blessings to seekers you may never have the pleasure of meeting, but they are certainly blessings nonetheless. Don't block the blessing - share it!

Dr. Bob J 5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - What a journey! Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2020Verified Purchase I did not expect the ending but I was genuinely touched. I slowed down as I neared the closing chapters because I was as interested in your story as I was in the details of how you got there. I traced your navigation in the book of the human elements as I sorted out your genealogical path on ancestry.com ...I was looking for insights into how people responded to you, your research and your determined drive to uncover more truth. Much of genealogical searching is tedious and lonely... few fathom the intense effort required. I found encouragement and a kindred spirit as I followed you online going where the science was leading. I am at that point in a portion of my own journey. Finding my own slave holding family members and then discerning through DNA matches my half cousins, I admit has stirred up a troubling array of emotions because I know they "see me" searching. You gave meaningful expression to some of those feelings in your narrative as you challenged me to see more of all sides than just my own. To wrestle with the pain suffered by family caused by others in the family; yet allow His grace to bring me to a place of forgiveness and and reconciliation so I could continue searching. Your commentaries throughout are a testimony of your Christian spirit and upbringing prevailing. You speak to the issues plaguing our society and culture even today with a good mix of love and grace, reason and clarity (I wish more of us possessed). Thank you for sharing your journey and story with me. I too believe it will help others and especially those who are searching to know more of the truth about their family... and are not afraid of what they might discover. Carol Healy 5.0 out of 5 stars Never give up until your goal is accomplished. Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2020Verified Purchase I recommend this autobiography, written by Ron Levi, to everyone but especially to those who are interested in genealogy and family backgrounds. Ron, a biracial 11 year old boy, is told by his mother that he was adopted. Imagine his surprise! He has questions but senses her reluctance to share any information. His adoptive mother is loving, supporting and nurturing. Ron loves her in return. His adoptive father is an abusive alcoholic, who is never close to him. Ron is intelligent, graduating from high school early at the age of 16. The book is descriptive of these years as being overall successful. Because he lived in a very nice home in an upper class section of the city, he experienced some race related issues, but nothing like what may have happened elsewhere. The remainder of his story is the focus of the book. Ron is relentless in his pursuit to learn about his blood parentage, which takes him back to the time of slavery in the south and an exploration of European royalty. The details of what he learns in this patient focus is riveting, as well as all the methodology and people who helped him reach his goal. Join him in this interesting journey. Amazon Customer 5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2021 Once I started reading this, I couldn’t put it down. It was easy to visualize everything and everyone. I thought it was absolutely amazing that the birth family kept such good records. That is so vital in the search for an African American family because we did not exist as far as records and documents go until 1870. I am so glad that Ron followed his dream and was successful in finding his family even though it didn’t quite have the happy ending , but such is life. It was very informative for me because it happens that I am a part of this great family and there was a lot that I didn’t know about the family. I highly recommend this book. It is a great read!! Den Hershberger 5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating. Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2021 Ron, you're a very rich man. Writing talent so engaging. Recall of life's events harrowing, or fun, but recognizing how all these worked to form you as an individual. The love of family and friends which obviously had a positive impact. Your mother's early recognition of your potential and the constant goal in nurturing, and ensuring you got every possible opportunity to grow. I'm amazed at the tenacity and focus you put into the hours, days, years it took to solve the mystery of your roots. Congratulations for this book. Thanks for sharing. Cynthia J. Cooper 5.0 out of 5 stars I read this book in two days! I couldn't put it down! Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020 I really enjoyed this book! I was impressed with how much information the Author was able to gather about all of his family. There were parts that made me laugh and parts that made me cry. It didn't end the way I thought it would, but it ended the way it was supposed to!
